Christuraj Church Rajamudy


Christuraj Church RajamudyThe Church is beautifully nestled in the eastern region of Kerala in Idukki district and is set at an altitude of 2450 feet above main sea level. It is located in the diocese of Idukki.

The Parish is dedicated to Christ the King. The total no. of families is 275 and total number of family members is 900. the parish is split in to thirteen family units. The annual feast of the parish is well known per annum on the last weekday and Sunday of January. Christ the King L.P. School Rajamudy is below the Management of the Parish. The Provincial house of Nava Jyothi Province of Sacred Heart Congregation is situated in the Parish. More than 150 Student do their religious and catechetical studies in Christuraj Sunday School, Rajamudy during this year.


History

Rajamudy, earlier, known as padamughamm began to be known as Rajamudy after the establishment of  Christuraj  Church. It is said that while doing agricultural works in the area the people of that time got a PADAVAL of an ADIVASI King and the people decided to name the place as Rajamudy.

Till 1968, this area was under the territory of St. Joseph's Church Upputhode. The Christian faithful, Migrating from low range area to this place fulfilled their spiritual needs in the parishes of St. Joseph's Church, Upputhode, St. Mary's Church, Murickassery and Holy Family Church Kiliyarkandom.


Sri. Pappachan Vadakkel felt an idea of constructing a Kurisupally at Rajamudy. He shared the idea to his friends, Sri. Chandykunju, Paikada and Sri. Thommachan Punnakuzhiyil. They decided to approach Rev. Fr. Thomas Chgettiparambil, then the vicar of Upputhode Parish. Fr. Thomas Chettiparambil welcomed the idea and suggested them that instead of construction a kurisupally, they should think of a church at Rajamudy. The idea of a church at Rajamudy was a great inspiration to them and decided to go ahead with this idea. Sri. Pappachan Vadakkel Donated three acres of land Sri. Thommachan Punnakuzhy too donated 36 cents of land for the church.

The Preliminary works of a temporary church began in 1968, with the permission of Mar. Mathew Pothanamuzhy. Rev. Fr. Antony Puthussery celebrated the Holy Mass for the first time in the Parish. Till 1975 vicars and Asst. Vicars of Uppothode parish were in charge of this parish too. Rev. Fr. Mathew Pothanamuzhy was Appointed as the first vicar to Rajamudy.

On 28 January 1978 Mar. George Punnakottil blessed the Kurisady at Pathinaramkandom. Christ the King  LPS started functioning on 15 June 1983, S.H. Convent started on June 5th 1984
The Silver Jubilee was celebrated in 1995, The Newly built Presbytery was blessed on 29th December 1995

The Chapel in the cemetery was blessed on 30th December 2000

St. Jude's Shrine at Pathinaramkandom was blessed on 22nd April 2003 by Mar. Mathew Anikuzhikattil.

Silver Jubilee celebrations of Christ the King LPS were held on 23rd January 2008

The annual feast is celebrated in Last Saturday and Sunday of January, The name of Parish patron saint ‘Christuraj’.
