Ramakkalmedu Idukki

Nestled in the Idduki district of the god’s own country, Ramakkalmedu is an enchanting hill station. It is located at a distance of 15 km away from the Nedumkandom which is situated on the way to Munnar and Idduki route. The verdant greenery of the hills captivates thousands of tourists from every nook of the world. It remains to the tallest hill in the Western Ghats which stands at the height of 3500 meters feet above the sea level and is truly a worth visiting destination. It is said that the Lord “Sree Rama” a Hindu god has set his foot on the rock and from the time the place is known as Ramakkalmedu. The history of the place says that once the lord Rama came across the place in search of his wife Sita who was snatched by Rawan, the King of Lanka. During this time the lord Rama had walked through the place and climbed in the highest rock in search of Sita. The place is also known as the “land of Rama’s stone” or “land where Rama kept his leg”.

There are numerous attractions around the place and some of the major spots are like Periyar tiger forest, Munnar, spice farms, Kuttikanam etc. You can have the panoramic view of the god’s own country and Tamil Nadu. The nearest train station is Kottayam which is about 140 km away from Ramakkalmedu. The spot is also well connected by roadways. Thekkady is about 40 km, Kattappana is 20 km, Munnar 70 km, Kumily 36 km and there are several buses running from these places. It is up to you to make your travel.
